Soul Rebel Performance Troupe - monthly reading

Soul Rebel Performance Troupe, founded by Albany Black Professional Meetup member Jean-Remy Monnay and his partner, is a not-for-profit organization which seeks to highlight and promote performance and theatrical pieces by artists of color. The mission is to promote increased understanding, appreciation and participation of the performing arts among communities or color. There will be an interactive reading of the play "Steal Away Home" on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 1:00pm - 3:30pm at the Albany County Public Library (2nd floor conference room). Acting/reading experience is not required. Not sure what a play "reading" is? Attendees will will choose a role and read their lines aloud - in character. After the entire is play is read there will be a group discussion regarding the play similar to a book club discussion. NOTE: Every attendee is NOT required to read and can opt to observe and/or participate in the follow up discussion. About the play: Two young slave boys escape from a South Carolina plantation, and with the help of many good people, both black and white, make their way north to join their freed father in Pennsylvania.
